Nestle - A History1866
In 1866 the first European condensed milk factory opens in Switzerland by the Anglo - Swiss Condensed Milk Company. 1867 Henri Nestle starts making FARINE LACTEE a mixture of cows milk, wheat, flour and sugar. 1905 After years of fierce competition the Anglo - Swiss company and Nestle form to make the Nestle and Anglo Swiss Company. This is a thriving success which lead to the company to have factories in - USA, UK, SPAIN, GERMANY, AUSTRALIA, SINGAPORE, HONG KONG, BOMBAY. 1914 WW1 begins making milk and raw ingredients very difficult for company's to get. Nestle purchases another factory in the USA. This helps the production to double by the end of the war. 1920 - 1945 By the 20's Nestle had slipped into a large debt because of increase of ingredients and the rising economy. An expert banker helps Nestle out of this debt. Once again, Nestle adds 2 new products to its line - new chocolate and drinks powdered. By the 30's they were making "Nescafe" which was an instant hit everywhere! Nestle factories expand by putting factories in Latin America. Production Increases dramatically and nearing the end of WW2 Nescafe becomes a main drink in America. Sales increased by $125 million from 1938-1945. 1945-1970 After the war, Nestle merged with a soups and seasoning.By 1947 Nestle had merged with Cross & Black wall, Findus Frozen Fruits and Libby's fruit juices. 1974 - 1980 By this time Nestle became a stockholder for L'Oreal. After however, Nestle suffered because of the exchange rates decreased and the price of coffee and chocolate beans had increased. Because of this gap Nestle decided to try medicine. 1980 - 2002 One of the biggest take overs of all time - Nestle took over Carnation for $3 billion. Nestle starting trading with Eastern Europe and China. By the 90's acquired Spillers Cat Food (and more!) which lead to the 2002 release of Nestle Purina Catfood. 2002 - PRESENT DAY Over the past 13 years, Nestle has merged with a ridiculous amount of brands and added many more to its product line. In 2003 - Nestle bought Movenpick Ice Cream, 2006 saw Uncle Toby's and Jenny Craig being added to its product range. In 2007 saw a new medicine product called Novartis Medical Nutrition. By 2008 they had merged with Kraft Food for their frozen pizza. |
